The Lonely Planet initially began as a guide book series in the 80s. Starting with the India guide book it expanded its series to first cover Asia, and expanded to rest of the world later on. Today, it has a large digital presence, including lonelyplanet.com, where you can learn about various travel destinations.

Lonely Planet was my first go to internet and book resources when it came travel. I purchase their Cyprus book before my study abroad and found their website to be an invaluable resource before taking some of my first trips. This resource served as training wheels for me as a novice solo traveler.
